Multinational healthcare technology company Omnicell, which develops and manufactures automated systems for medication management in hospitals and medication adherence packaging and patient engagement software for retail pharmacies, has officially confirmed a data breach following a recent ransomware attack that impacted internal IT systems, products, and third-party cloud services.
In the 10-Q filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, the company said that it identified the ransomware attack on May 4, 2022. The incident was promptly addressed to restore and ensure business continuity.
Law enforcement agencies and cybersecurity experts have already been approached to help investigate the attack, whose extent to the business remains unknown. Omnicell also did not detail the ransomware used in the attack.
However, it admitted that its IT systems and third-party cloud services were potentially vulnerable to cyberattacks, including ransomware or other data security incidents, by employees or others, which may expose sensitive data to unauthorized persons.
As of May 17, Omnicell has not posted official notice of the breach on its website. However, more information about the Omnicell breach is expected to be made available as the investigation continues.
